Naked Craft Project Residency について
アーティストとして参加したこの期間は、私にとって非常に興味深く、今まで経験したことのないものでした。新長田の皆様には、このプロジェクトに参加して頂き非常に嬉しく思っています。私が知っているものとは全く異なった世界があり、皆さん心を開いて共に作業を行うことを歓迎してくれました。これは、あるコミュニティの人々が一ヶ月間ものあいだ一致団結できる素晴らしい方法だと思います。新長田の人々はとても協力的で、たとえ言葉の壁があっても、共に作業し創造性を示すことで繋がることができました。私が知っているものとは全く異なった世界があり、皆さん心を開いて共に作業を行うことを歓迎してくれました。これは、あるコミュニティの人々が一ヶ月間ものあいだ一致団結できる素晴らしい方法だと思います。新長田の人々はとても協力的で、たとえ言葉の壁があっても、共に作業し創造性を示すことで繋がることができました。
How was Naked Craft Project Residency?
My experience as an artist in residence was really interesting and something I had never experienced before. It was a delight to have the people of shin-nagata so involved in the project. It's a great way to integrate someone in the community for a month: being there was such a different world to what I know and people where so open minded and welcoming to work with. The people of shin-nagata were very supportive, and even with a language barrier, we could still connect through working together and creativity.Getting local people to try glass work, in my case it was kiln cast glass made with lost wax mould making process was really a great experience. Glass being such an expensive medium, it is an unusual workshop to get the local community to have a try at. Residency projects like this one makes it possible for people to access creativity through a medium they wouldn't usually would be able to try.

長田での生活や地域交流について
私達は、一つは大人向け、もう一つは子供向けに、二つのワークショップイベントを行いました。ワークショップに参加された皆さんはワックスの彫刻デザインを製作し、そのワックスモデルを私がガラスに落とし込み製作しました。皆さんのクリエイティブなデザインを拝見できてとても良かったです。そして、自分達がデザインしたガラス作品を目にした時の皆さんの感動したお顔を拝見しました。これらは、とても素晴らしい社会体験でしたし、沢山の人が参加してくださってとても嬉しかったです。イベントの一つである、私がメインのケーキプレートを製作した “Sweets Holliday” (スイーツホリデー～甘味の休日)は、地元のお店のオーナーとガラス作家とのコラボレーションイベントです。これに参加した人々は視覚、味覚、そして触覚を含む感覚に関して非常に充実した経験ができたかと思います。このイベントの間、皆さん食べたり飲んだりしながら、その食べ物や飲み物、そしてガラスそのものについての情報や説明をとても楽しんでいました。全ての器は、それぞれのガラス作家が自身の作品を説明するために製作されました。全てのガラスの器は異なった技法で製作され、同じプロジェクトの為に製作されたガラス容器ですが、ガラスの製造について、いかに多様であるかを認識させられました。このイベントは食に関する地元のお店を宣伝するだけではなく、ガラスに馴染みのない方に向けた勉強会でもあり、ガラス作家の製品や技術を理解するのに役立ちました。
How was Nagata life and local community?
We had two workshop events, one for adults and one for children, during which the public made a sculptural design of wax and I then cast the wax model into glass. It was nice to see everyone’s creative ideas. And see the excitement on adults and children’s faces when they saw their glass piece made from their own design. It was a great social experience and I was glad so many people attended. One of the events was a collaboration between shop owners and local glass makers, “Sweets Holliday” I made the main cake plate. The people who attended this had a very full experience for the senses; where sight, taste and touch were involved. During this event people were entertained by information and had explanations about the food and drink and the glass objects they were eating or drinking from. All vessels were made by individual local glass makers who were there to talk about their work. Every vessel was made with a different technique from a different glass maker and made people realize how diverse the making of the product can be with glass which was all made for a same project. Not only did it promote small local businesses involved with food it was also an educational event for those who aren't familiar with glass, it helped people understand the craft of the glass maker.

長田での展示について
最後のイベントは、自身の作品を展示したエキシビションです。私の作品だけでなく、ワークショップで皆さんが製作した作品など、私の滞在月に私達が関わったプロジェクトでの作品を皆さんにお見せしました。それは本当に素晴らしい最後のイベントでした。このプロジェクトに関わった人々を再編成し、このプロジェクトにどれほどの人々が関わり喜んでいるのかを実感しました。私はこれらのイベントを通じて皆さんと協力することで、中小企業の手助けや、ガラスの創造性について人々がより興味関心を示すように切り開くことができることを願っています。これはプロジェクトの始まりに過ぎず、資金が多ければ多いほど、将来、地域社会のために、また地域社会の人々と共に成長し、さらなるイベントも開催できるようになると思います。
How was Nagata exhibition?
The last event was the final exhibition where I showed my work but it was also showing everybody what we had done throughout the month of residency and exhibited the glass pieces from the workshop events. It was a great final event to have. It regrouped all the people who got involved in the residency and made me realize how involved and glad people felt about being part of this project. I'm hoping I have opened people minds about glass, creativity and helping small businesses by collaborating with them for these events. This is only the beginning of the residency project, the better it is funded the better it will be able to grow and have events for and with the local community in the future.
